Our dance classes across Wales began with a simple idea: to create a space where people could move, feel confident and experience Indian and South Asian culture through dance in a way that feels welcoming and real. From Bollywood fitness sessions in Barry to choreography workshops in Cardiff, Desi Beats has grown into a community built on joy, connection and belonging through movement.
Dance Classes in
sOUTH Wales
The journey of our dance classes began in 2022 in Barry, with Bollywood fitness sessions built around music, movement and confidence. What started as a way to reconnect with dance and wellbeing quickly became a safe and uplifting space for others too. These early sessions allowed people to move without judgement, feel present and experience culture through dance in a way that felt natural and supportive.
As the community grew, Desi Beats expanded into Cardiff, introducing monthly dance workshops focused on choreography, storytelling and cultural expression through movement. These workshops offered a deeper way to explore dance while holding onto the same values of inclusivity, confidence and connection that shaped the very first classes in Barry.
Today, Desi Beats delivers beginner-friendly Indian and South Asian dance classes across Wales, with regular sessions in Barry and Cardiff, alongside workshops for schools, weddings, community groups and corporate wellbeing programmes. New workshops are also being planned in Swansea and Newport as the Wales-wide programme continues to grow.
Our dance classes are designed to be welcoming and accessible to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Whether someone is stepping into a dance class for the first time, returning to movement after a long break, or joining for fitness and wellbeing, every session is created to feel supportive, respectful and empowering.
Dance at Desi Beats is about more than learning routines. It is about presence, expression and mental wellbeing. Each class creates space for people to move freely, release stress, build confidence and feel connected to themselves and to others. Music, culture and movement come together to form an experience that feels uplifting rather than pressured or competitive.
Our workshops and classes explore a wide range of styles including Bollywood, Bhangra, Giddha, semi-classical movement and Indian and South Asian dance forms. Each session blends cultural storytelling with modern, fitness-style movement, allowing people to experience both the emotional expression of dance and the joy of being active. From high-energy routines to more expressive choreography, participants are encouraged to explore dance as both an art form and a form of exercise.
Desi Beats dance classes across Wales are inspired by cultural pride while remaining open to everyone. For South Asian participants, the classes offer representation, familiarity and a sense of belonging. For those from non-South Asian backgrounds, they provide an opportunity to experience Indian and South Asian culture through dance in a natural, welcoming and non-intimidating way.
We believe dance should be a place where people can be themselves. Not a gym. Not a performance audition. But a space to move, to feel present, to gain confidence and to be part of a growing community. Our sessions are emotionally safe, non-judgemental and guided with care, knowledge and respect for both dance and wellbeing.
Alongside regular dance classes, Desi Beats also delivers school and youth workshops, wedding choreography and performances, community and cultural events, and corporate and wellbeing sessions. All of these are guided by the same ethos: creating joyful, meaningful dance experiences that bring people together through culture, movement and connection.
As Desi Beats continues to grow across Wales, the aim is to build a wider dance community that celebrates diversity, supports mental health and offers opportunities for dancers and artists to teach, perform and develop together. Future plans include expanding workshops into more cities, collaborating with mental health and cultural organisations, and creating in-person events focused on dance, connection and wellbeing.
Inspired by South Asian culture and open to everyone, Desi Beats dance classes exist to help people feel confident, connected and free to move in a space where they truly belong.
If you would like to experience a Desi Beats class for yourself, we would love to welcome you.
